A science themed brunch café in Newcastle
The Dispensary Coffee House is a science themed eatery known for its delicious breakfast pancakes, brunch items, and speciality coffee.
After eating our way through loads of delicious food on our recent trip, we really fancied something just as hearty and delicious for breakfast when we got back, so we finally checked it out.

It’s actually been on my list for a while – I’ve heard so many good things, and it definitely lived up to the hype.

The coffee presentation is super creative (although I slightly missed a trick – I should’ve gone for their drip coffee, which actually comes served in a proper drip setup). That said, the americano was lovely and my matcha was gorgeous! Definitely one of the best ones I’ve had in a while.
They are known for their pancake stacks, but the menu is so much more than pancakes – I was really surprised by the choice.

We decided to share a mix of sweet and savoury dishes:
- Apple & Cinnamon Crumble French Toast – I love French toast and this was super lovely. Three slices of brioche French toast with maple syrup (served in a syringe!), apple sauce, crumbled shortbread, fresh apple slices, and vanilla ice cream. Beautifully presented and not overly sweet – moreish and the portion was great.

- Chicken & Waffles – Cornflake crusted fried chicken with soft waffles, maple syrup, and a honey buffalo sauce – again served in a syringe so you can drizzle it yourself. I really enjoyed this part – always here for a bit of food theatre! Fun and seriously tasty.

- Steak & Eggs – a classic and they do it soooo well here! Toasted focaccia with caramelised onions, steak strips, pesto dressing, and two fried eggs, we also opted for the side of hollandaise which was a good shout and I think tied the whole dish together so well.

The steak was cooked perfectly, really generous portions (again, I was pleasantly surprised!) and everything tasted fresh and really flavoursome.
The place had a great atmosphere – it was super lively, even with it being quite early on a Sunday morning, and the staff were really friendly.

Why The Dispensary stands out
What makes this place different is the concept – it’s not just your usual brunch café. The science inspired theme runs through the whole space and gives it a really unique twist while still feeling casual and easy to relax in.
The menu works whether you’re just stopping for coffee or sitting in for a full brunch, and there’s a really good mix of options across the board. The fact they cater for vegan, gluten-free and halal diets also makes it really accessible for everyone.

We’ll definitely be back – next time for those inventive coffees!
If you’re looking for a great breakfast/brunch spot or a coffee date – the dispensary is definitely with a try!
