The Chamber has recently turned one, and as we have been regulars since their opening night – you can read about our experiences so far here.

Small plates at The Chamber South Shields
Most recently we visited to try their new, exciting menu – with the small plates being our particular highlight.
I just love this style of dining and I think small plates are the way to go because it’s the perfect excuse to try a bit of everything, share with the table (or not, ha), and really get a feel for what a restaurant does best.

I think it makes meals more fun, more social, and way more exciting than just a standard starter-main-dessert situation. And I would lie if I didn’t add that I just LOVE when all the food comes out together and you see what an absolute feast you’re about to have! As a keen (hobby) food photographer, this is my idea of a great set up!
The new menu items we tried
We went for:
- Lamb chops (from the starter menu) – Sizzling lamb chops marinated in aromatic spices, grilled until tender and succulent, and covered in Chamber’s dynamite sauce.

- Dynamite prawn dragon roll – A fusion sushi roll featuring crispy dynamite prawns and soft cheese, topped with avocado and dynamite sauce. I have had their sushi before and they actually got even better at these! It was one of my highlights of the night.

- Birria tacos – Authentic, slow-cooked beef birria served in soft tortillas, LOADED with cheese. I can’t tell you how flavoursome these were!

- Adana kebab skewers – Kebab skewers, we went for the beef. It was grilled to perfection and very tasty.

- Crispy okra fries – Okra fingers lightly coated in Chamber’s house masala batter. These were a real surprise of the night; I find okra fries tricky and had them many times where they were a little greasy, but these were crisp and lovely.

- Bao buns – Two soft, fluffy bao buns, I opted for dynamite prawn. This was my favourite dish of the night. The prawns were huge and cooked PERFECTLY. I could have about five of these little fluffy buns. They were gorgeous!

Why you keep going back to The Chamber
The Chamber holds a special place for me because I loved seeing this place first open, all the exciting menu changes, and I am SUPER excited about this new addition of small plates, which, in my opinion, is a great selection of dishes.
If you are South Shields based, this place is definitely worth a visit. And if you don’t fancy a meal out, they also deliver, so you can enjoy their food at home too.

Location
The Chamber is located at 1 South Avenue, South Shields, NE34 6AS. The nearest metro station is South Shields Metro Station, approximately a 5-minute walk from The Chamber. Street parking is available nearby.

Tips for visiting
- Try their small plates – They are a new addition to the menu and one of my favourite things they serve here! If you enjoy tapas, this is for you!
- Try their takeaway – They offer a takeaway service, so check out their menu for takeaway specials.
- BYOB – While they don’t serve alcohol, you can bring your own bottle, making your night a little bit cheaper. We aren’t big drinkers anyway, so always opt for their mocktails– the lychee spritz is my go-to!
