Metrocentre, Gateshead
Best for: games, things to do in Newcastle, activities in the North East, fun day out, family activities, team games, team building
Our experience of Activate
Activate has arrived in Metrocentre so naturally we had to try it. And we had the BEST evening – I don’t think I’ve laughed this much in ages!
We jumped, we solved puzzles, we shot lasers, we ran between glowing tiles and tried not to trip over each other… and laughed so much my cheeks hurt.

How does Activate work?
You go in groups of up to 5 and take on loads of different rooms like Mega Grid, Laser, Press and Strike. Every game is fast, energetic and a bit chaotic (or was it just our team?!) but that’s what makes it SO MUCH FUN.
Each game is short and snappy – about 1–3 minutes – so there’s loads of variety and you’re never stuck in the same room for too long.
You can also go back to the room if you’ve enjoyed the games – we returned to a couple of the ones we liked the most.

You can play as a team or compete against each other. Your wristband keeps score so you can see who’s the most competitive in the group, and your position on the leaderboard.
What’s really cool is that each game has different levels – from easier ones to super tricky – and you unlock more as you go. So it keeps you moving, thinking and wanting to beat the next challenge.

Is it worth it?
At just under £20 off peak, I think it is great value for money. We left buzzing and already planning our next visit.
If you’re looking for something fun – this is it.

Location
Activate is right inside the Metrocentre in Gateshead, so it’s super easy to get to.
Tips for visiting
Bring your mates, family, or work colleagues for a great day or night out
Wear trainers and comfy clothes (you’ll be moving loads – running, jumping, crawling and dodging lasers)
There is a vending machine, water fountain, lockers, toilets in the venue
Book before you go – I would recommend off peak so that you don’t have to wait long for the next game
