Colmans Seafood Temple – a fantastic seafood experience and a perfect beachside setting
If you’re a seafood fan looking for the perfect dining spot, Colmans Seafood Temple is a must-visit. Located right on the seafront, this cute place keeps us coming back! From fresh oysters to traditional fish and chips (and many different options in-between), Colmans Seafood Temple offers a fantastic seaside dining excellence.
Some highlights from the menu (and my favourites) include:
- Oysters: Served fresh with a variety of sauces, these are a must-try. They also do a fried option if fresh oysters aren’t quite your thing.

- Fish and chips: A classic dish that Colmans Seafood Temple is so well known for, not just in the North East, but in the whole country. Definitely one of our personal favourites.

- King prawns: Juicy and flavourful, served with a delicious garlic butter sauce. I absolutely adore them. The way they are cooked to perfection and the delicious flavour are always consistent, so you just know that you’re in for a treat when you order.

- Chocolate and cherry torte: A decadent dessert with rich chocolate and tart cherries. It’s so intense in flavour that two people could share it (but we always get one each because it is SO GOOD).
- Sticky toffee pudding: A traditional favourite, served warm with a rich toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream. Classic and gorgeous.

But food isn’t the only thing that makes dining here a treat.
One of the most enchanting aspects of Colmans Seafood Temple is its location right on the beach. The restaurant offers stunning views, creating a relaxing atmosphere and we usually go for sunset time when the light here is just stunning.

Why we keep coming back
There are many reasons why Colmans Seafood Temple has become a go-to spot for me:
- Consistency: The quality of the seafood and the consistency in preparation make each dining experience memorable, whether you go for some fancy oysters, or something more traditional. Every dish we have ever had from here has been delicious – both sit in and take out options – and whenever I am asked for South Shields food recommendations, I will always talk about this place.
- Seasonal specials: Colmans Seafood Temple regularly updates its menu with seasonal specials, so there’s always something new to try.
- Friendly atmosphere: The casual, beachside vibe makes it a great spot for date nights, family gatherings, or catching up with friends.
If you haven’t visited yet, make sure to add Colmans Seafood Temple to your list. I’d recommend booking, especially during peak times. You’ll find yourself coming back time and time again.
