Amigos!
If you enjoy authentic Latin flavours – keep reading.
This place only opened in March but it’s already become one of our go-tos when we’re out in town. We have been so many times that I lost count, so I thought this article is well overdue – let me catch you up on all things Motel Mexicana!

Happy Hour deals
First of all – you can’t go to a Latin restaurant and not get margaritas, so naturally, this is one of the staple drinks we order here. And yes – they are as good as they make them in Mexico. But we all know that there is only one thing better than a margarita – and that’s two margaritas! And Motel Mexicana are definitely on board with that with their Happy Hour deals.

If you visit Tuesday to Friday from 4-9 pm, you can get two-for-one on all cocktails, Single House Spirit & Mixer – £3, Double House Spirit & Mixer – £5, and Pint of El Chico – £3.95. They do great margaritas and espresso martinis, but if you’re after a little show stopper – you need to get the Mexican Bulldog – a frozen margarita with the addition of an upturned ‘Coronita’. I had a little taste of Ryan’s and immediately wished I was on a Mexican beach sipping this. Mexican Summer in a glass!
Authentic Latin food
A date night is never complete without a little snacky snack, and even if we’re not hungry, we always get tempted by something here (you can’t not when you see the food arriving at tables next to you – the FOMO is real so we always get food as well.)

We normally share loaded nachos – they do both the regular and veggie options and since we share, we go for the chilli non carne; they’re always so, so good! I think their nachos are in a league of their own with great portion size for sharing and they’re LOADED with all the delicious stuff on top, and between all the layers, so you don’t end up with dry tortilla chips at the end.

And if you’re a taco fan (hi, me too!), theirs are some of the best in town! Ryan goes for the beef or the chicken ones, which he said were delicious, and I get the pulled jackfruit, mushroom, or the chili ones. I actually said to Aidan, one of the owners, that I couldn’t stop saying ‘oh my god’ after every bite of the mushroom taco because it was that good! I literally thought it was the best veggie taco I’ve ever had! But then I had the jackfruit one and OH MY GOD now I know that is the best veggie taco I’ve ever had. If you like spicy food – this is the one to try. Just sooooo good!

In true Latin style, they also have churros on the menu for a sweet snack. Generously covered in cinnamon sugar and served with a chocolate sauce dip, they are moreish and just melt in your mouth. Delicious!

But food and drink isn’t the only thing that feels authentic about this place. I just love how they play authentic Latin music and the place is decorated just like some Mexican restaurants and coffee shops we visited on our Mexican trips. It’s perfect to make you feel like you actually are in a Mexican cantina, and if you want to go a step further and experience a proper Fiesta Mexicana, you have got to try their bottomless brunch too!
Brunch, but make it a party!

Motel Mexicana has recently introduced a bottomless brunch, and let me tell you – it’s one of the most entertaining brunches in town! You’re greeted with prosecco and nachos upon arrival (we love their nachos – did I mention that already?!), and then it’s 90 minutes of bottomless drinks. You can choose from 2 options – the popular El Patron (7 drink options to choose from including cocktails and lager) for £39 or El Presidente (slightly upgraded 10 different drinks option) for £49.

You also get 2 of their tacos with both options – which I think is just the perfect amount of food when you’re also drinking.

Entertainment: get ready to win (and laugh!)
The brunch experience here is more than just bottomless drinks and delicious food. We’ve done loads of bottomless brunches before (all great in their own way) but this one is definitely the most fun. They have a live DJ and a host leading the games – from karaoke battles and limbo competitions to a spicy card game that Ryan can vouch for! The games bring everyone together, so if you’re looking for a brunch with real energy and a party atmosphere, you won’t be disappointed. We even won some drinks vouchers as prizes, giving us the perfect excuse to stick around afterwards (spoiler: most participants won prizes, so it is definitely worth having a go!)

And if you need a little more courage to take part, staff come over with a tray of shots, which are included in the bottomless (that was a cool surprise).
What makes Motel Mexicana a standout
I can go on and on about how much we enjoy this place – it’s not just the food and drinks that keep us coming back; it’s the whole experience. And the authenticity is undeniable, with a kitchen team from Colombia, Honduras, and El Salvador, creating an experience that’s genuinely Latin at its core.
Whether it’s a quick drink, a meal, ora full-on fiesta – if you like a chilled yet fun atmosphere, this is a place to try!
Location
Motel Mexicana is right in Newcastle city centre at 36-38 Mosley Street, NE1 1DF. It’s super accessible by public transport with nearby metro stations, bus stops, and ample city centre parking.
Tips for Visiting
- Happy Hour deals: Visit Tuesday – Friday from 4–9 pm to take advantage of their 2-for-1 cocktail deal, and some other top-quality drinks at a great price. The perfect start to a night out.
- Bottomless Brunch like no other: If you’re in the mood for something different, book their bottomless brunch. It includes 90 minutes of drinks and games that make it one of the liveliest brunches in town. We found the music to be great too.
- If you’re a taco fan, you’ll love it here: you can’t go wrong with any of the taco options, but try ordering a variety to share – they’re all different, but all equally delicious.
- Bring your amigos: Motel Mexicana is the perfect spot to share with friends (we have introduced some of ours to this place already!)
- Great cocktails: If you’re a margarita fan, their frozen margs are as refreshing as it gets. Ryan’s recommendation, the Mexican Bulldog, is also a must-try.
- Book ahead: Walk-ins are welcome, but as one of Newcastle’s hottest spots, booking in advance is recommended for groups or weekend visits. The brunch especially often gets fully booked so if you’re thinking about that – make a reservation in advance. You can choose from two sittings – 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm.
- La Reception: If you’re looking to host your own party, they have a space upstairs that can be hired for events; decor-wise, it’s consistent with the bar downstairs, so a really fun vibe.
