Hewn Yorkshire: why we went back
We’ve just got back from a weekend at Hewn Yorkshire, and I didn’t think it was even possible, but we loved it even more this time around!
We stayed here before and really enjoyed it (read all about it here) but since our last visit the place has had a complete makeover – and I mean a real GLOW UP!

We love to take Loui somewhere nice, and this place is just perfect – you get to completely relax and switch off from the outside world.
Hewn is dog friendly, adults only, peaceful and secluded, with everything designed to help you slow down and relax. With no WiFi, I love being able to have a digital detox – toast marshmallows, watch squirrels and wild rabbits, soak in the hot tub, and even nap – totally guilt free!

While the cabins had a full reno, the place absolutely kept the authentic Nordic feel. The fire pits, the fire heated hot tubs, gorgeous woodland walks, stunning open meadow (compete with wild strawberries this time of the year) make this place a perfect stay if you really want to relax.

The newly refurbished cabins at Hewn Yorkshire
This time we stayed in the Settmaker, just next door to the cabin we stayed at last Summer. As the other cabins on site, it’s been beautifully designed, with Scandi inspired interiors, comfortable bed and everything you need for a cosy countryside escape. It is spacious and you’ll find everything you need there.
The kitchenette is super modern with elegant cupboards, a microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, and all the utensils and crockery you may need for your stay (although you may want to make use of the firepit BBQ just outside the cabin for cooking instead – it is way more fun!)

I love the cosy seating area with armchairs and a cute coffee table. They also added some lovely shelving which looks good, and adds a bit of extra storage. The TV has the main channels.

Not to mention the bathroom – it’s been completely redone, with a gorgeous, luxurious rainfall shower (not something you expect in a cabin, right?!), warm tones, and elegant sink area. There is now a lot of space to store all your toiletries too – a big bonus.

What hasn’t changed – great outdoor space & Finnish hot tubs
Outside, the cabin has a patio with benches, a fire pit and BBQ grill, and of course your private Finnish wood fired hot tub, pre heated for your arrival.

The woodland paths and meadow also need a mention; they are super secluded and quiet, perfect for early morning or late evening dog walks. If you have an anxious or reactive dog – this place is ideal. Loui can be a bit nervous around crowds, but he will happily walk around the site and wander in the grass of the meadow for ages.

Hewn also still offer additional Sauna sessions. The sauna itself is super pretty and complete with a sundeck with loungers and an outdoor cold shower. The views over the North Yorkshire countryside are lovely – the green fields go on for miles, it is such a relaxing vibe.

So – would we go back again?
Hewn Yorkshire is all about calm and relaxation. The place feels tranquil and has the most relaxing vibe.

We found it to be super clean and organised the first time we visited, and this hasn’t changed at all. The landscaping and lawns around the cabins are pristine which is some achievement considering that these guys have just reopened after a full reno of the cabins.
I also loved that they still keep up with their Hewn Yorkshire ‘newspaper’ which you get upon arrival in addition to the digital information you receive via email – it tells you little facts about the place and has some good recommendations on what to do and see in the area. It’s those little touches that make this place a spot we will happily return to again and again.

We actually spoke about potentially coming back in Autumn/Winter – While summer here is beautiful, I think this place will be gorgeous in autumnal colours and in cold, wintery coziness. too!

Tips for Visiting Hewn Yorkshire
- The whole site is adults only, some cabins are dog friendly.
- Check in is between 3- 5pm, check-out is 10am.
- Bring swimwear and towels for the hot tub, flip flops or outdoor shoes, a torch, and personal toiletries. Robes and bathroom towels are provided.

- Dog friendly – the guys here know how to impress a dog parent! They provide a water bowl, bags, a ball and some treats too – a very sweet gesture and Loui wasted no time checking it all out.

- Fire Pit Packs are included, but if you want extra logs and starter packs, they are available for purchase on site and very reasonably priced. We actually wish we’d bought some to take home for the log burner – unfortunately only thought about it on the way home.
- Sauna is bookable online or at reception. It is complete with an outdoor cold shower and sun loungers. I highly recommend booking a slot.

- It is perfect for wildlife spotting. We loved listening to all different birds in the mornings, wild rabbit spotting, and we even got a visit from a peckish squirrel who was after our marshmallows (absolutely adorable, unfortunately we’d already eaten them all!)
- It is all about relaxation here – expect minimal internet access; the site is quiet and peaceful with a zero tolerance policy for outdoor music. It really is perfect for switching off properly and doing a digital detox.
