Delta hotel by Marriott, Newcastle – our stay & dinner review
We recently stayed at Delta hotel by Marriott Newcastle, and it actually really surprised us! It was comfortable, clean and spacious, but what we didn’t expect was the delicious food (including unreal desserts!) and cocktails at the restaurant, as well as the incredible spa and gym onsite.

The hotel is close to the Metrocentre, which makes it a great base for shopping, if you’re heading into Newcastle for a gig or event, or if you’re just after a relaxed stay close to the action, but without the city centre chaos right outside.
Our room at Delta hotel by Marriott

The room was spacious and really well laid out, with lots of seating options (which Loui adored), a large TV, and a big bathroom with huge mirror (always appreciated).#
I loved the decor and prints, especially the subtle Newcastle posters — a nice local touch without being cheesy.

It felt calm, modern, and practical, but still cosy enough for a relaxed staycay.
Bonus points for being dog friendly – Loui absolutely loved his stay and staff were super lovely towards him too.

Evening meal at the Cast Iron Bar & Grill – Delta’ on site restaurant
Having an on site restaurant that’s actually good is such a win, and the menu here genuinely impressed us. Food arrived quickly, the service was super friendly, and the cocktails were gorgeous!
As we dined with Loui, we sat at the bar part of the restaurant, which had a lovely, relaxed feel.

We tried:
- Mixed olives
- Coconut prawns with katsu & chilli mayonnaise (some of the lightest batter I’ve had – beautiful)

- Feta cheese with sun blushed tomatoes, rocket & olives flatbread (fresh and a great portion)
- Sirloin steak with confit tomato & fries (cooked perfectly)

- Flat iron chicken with chimichurri marinade & fries (the fries were addictive)

And the biggest surprise of the night – the desserts. I didn’t even intend on having a dessert but in the end, I couldn’t miss out! And they are absolutely a must-try! We had:

- Sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream (a perfect 10/10)
- Chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream (the pistachio flavour was so lovely, and the fondant was super rich, gorgeous). It was unreal!

Everything was well cooked and very tasty. If you’re planning a stay – I’d definitely recommend this place. We may actually pop back just to dine here again!
What’s fun, they also stock local drinks, which is always nice to see. We had Firebrick Brewery, Blaydon-on-Tyne – Wey aye PA, which was a great touch and fitted the vibe perfectly. It’s always nice when a large business like Delta hotels supports a small local business.

Cocktails were so good too – we were surprised with their special espresso martini – it was presented so beautifully and tasted amazing too! Shout out to the mixologist for the recommendation!
Fitness, spa & leisure facilities at Delta hotel by Marriott
The fitness centre here is pretty incredible – easily one of the best I’ve seen at a North East hotel.

There’s:
- A full gym and a smaller gym with literally all the equipment you may need, regardless of whether you’re a cardio or weights person
- Dedicated spin room
- Studio space
- Pool, steam room and sauna (all lovely, spacious and clean)
What really stood out is that they have a timetable of fitness classes, which you can book onto! I think it is such a nice extra and definitely not something every hotel offers.
I popped into the spa on Saturday evening and again on Sunday morning, and found the spa staff incredibly helpful and friendly.

Breakfast at Delta hotel by Marriott
And I can’t review a hotel without mentioning the most important meal of the day! And for me, Delta’s breakfast was another highlight. Served in the same restaurant, there’s a hot and cold buffet, but you can also request things like black pudding, vegetarian sausages, and poached eggs (which we did) which are made fresh to order.

Everything felt fresh and well stocked with staff replenishing things quickly.
My favourites – the super crispy hash browns, fresh watermelon, and good coffee.
And Loui seems to have enjoyed his sausage too!

The verdict: why Delta hotel by Marriott Newcastle nailed it
If I had to sum up our stay in one line: this hotel ticks pretty much every box. I loved the spacious rooms, the on site restaurant, the gym and spa facilities, and of course the fact they’re dog friendly. Combine this with a great location and lovely staff – the place is a great spot if you’re looking for a hotel in the North East.

Tips for visiting
- Book dinner in – the on site restaurant served delicious food and is great value for money
- Leave room for dessert (non-negotiable, you’ll know what I mean when you’ve tried them!)
- Pack gym gear& swimsuit – the facilities are too good to skip
- Ask about classes at check-in if you want to join a gym session
- If you’re travelling with a dog, let the hotel know in advance to make the stay smoother (there is a small charge per dog)
- If you fancy dining in your room, they have room service available
- No need to pack light – the rooms are spacious
- Expect a great night sleep; even though you’re near busy roads and metrocentre, we heard nothing all night, and the bed was very comfortable
- The TV is large but it’s not a smart TV so you won’t be able to log in to your own Netflix etc; not an issue for us as we don’t really watch TV when we’re away and were happy with Titanic in the background in the evening, but if you like to watch your shows in bed, bring an iPad or laptop. The Wi-Fi is complimentary.
