Everything you need to know about Burger Drop
When we tried Burger Drop for the first time, my only disappointment was that we hadn’t had it before! They’re not kidding when they say that it’s ‘Probably the best damn burgers you’ll ever eat!’ – the food is amazing.
You can read my previous reviews for more information on Burger Drop here and here
We have been fans of Burger Drop since their first venue and it’s great see them expand into new locations.
And if you are Sunderland based, you’re in luck as Burger Drop Sunderland has recently opened, bringing their incredible food to a new location, adding to their Newcastle and Whitley Bay spots.

Menu highlights – what you should order at Burger Drop
I have lost count of how many times we have had Burger Drop food, from both branches, and by now we have our faves (read full details on each of those items here)
- Vegan Cheese
- Seasoned Fries
- Fire Beef Drop
- Brisket Salsa Fries
- Crispy Fried Chicken Wing Pieces
- The Texas smoked brisket burger
- The cheese loaded fries
- IceBurgs
- Mango Shake
New menu at Burger Drop Sunderland
Since our last visit, they have added some new menu items and introduced the idea of ‘Builds’ where you can choose from Solo to Squad Build – making the meal as little or as huge as you like!
We went for:
- Vegan cheeseburger (my go to at BD – it’s seriously good)Vegan Cheese (I get it every time because it is one of the best vegan burgers; the texture and taste of their plant based quarter pounder patty is just unmatched); you don’t have to be a vegetarian or vegan to enjoy it, it’s really good, especially combined with Burger Drop’s signature sauce.

- Salt and chilli chicken burger – if you like salt and chilli dishes, this burger will be right up your street.

- Crispy coated tenders with dipping sauces. Our go to is usually the BD signature sauce but we also had some cheese sauce, garlic and sriracha mayo and they were all lovely. Not too spicy and not at all greasy – lovely for dipping your tenders, or fries

- Chicken gyro and Angus loaded fries – BD loaded fries are in a league of their own; absolutely loaded with the toppings! If you’re not too hungry, a portion of their loaded fries would be enough for a meal.

- We also had a couple of their famous milkshakes. You can mix and match the flavours, I went for the single flavour – Peanut milkshake, and our other choice was chocolate and salted caramel. They were both INSANE. I am not a huge milkshake fan but these get 10/10 from me. Gorgeous.

Why we keep going back to Burger Drop
- The menu is just the right size so that you get a lot of options for both burgers and sides, but it’s not overwhelming, and you know that each item is a crowd pleaser
- Every burger is made with fresh, high quality ingredients. Burger Drop is the best-selling burger on Uber Eats in the North East for a good reason!
- The sizes here are generous, so you’re sure to feel satisfied when you leave! I would be happy with a portion of their loaded fries as a main meal.
- Even though they are expanding, the place still feels like a family run burger joint with a friendly atmosphere and staff that make you feel welcome. The expansion certainly has not affected the quality of their food – it is just as good as it was when we first visited.
- New menu items are being added regularly which just make you want to go back again and again! (But this also means that some of your faves may be there for a limited period.)
- The customer service. Abdul who was looking after us was really friendly and welcoming.
- Such a lovely visit – the food came out fast, everything was delicious, and the decor is really nice too. Definitely worth the visit.

Secret menu item on Burger Drop menu
We mentioned how much we love the IceBurg that used to be on BD menu (IYKYK) and Abdul who runs the Sunderland branch actually made us one!
If you’ve never had an IceBurgs let me tell you – itis an actual SHOWSTOPPER. Just wow! It’s their own creation and as someone who isn’t the biggest ice cream fan (or a dessert fan for that matter), I didn’t think I would love it as much as I did. The ice cream is sandwiched inside a brioche bun that has been fried and sugar coated and is one of the nicest desserts everrrr. Just stunning. We absolutely love it!

Location
Burger Drop Heaton is located at 33 Heaton Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 1SB. The closest Metro station is Byker, a 10-minute walk from the venue and there is free on street parking on Heaton Road and the surrounding area.
Their Whitley Bay branch is located on 177 Whitley Road, NE26 2DN, which is a short walk from the Whitley Bay metro station. There is also street parking available which is free after 5:30pm.
You’ll find Burger drop Sunderland branch at 12 Derwent Street, Sunderland, SR1 3NT. There is convenient street parking right in front of the shop which is free after 6pm.

Tips for Visiting
- Order an extra portion of their signature Burger Drop Sauce because it is sooo good! You’ll want to pour it over everything!
- Burger Drop has several branches so you can easily find one near you – they are all recognisable as a brand but have their own little variations which is quite nice.
- Eat in and take away options available.
- Good portion sizes – I said it in my previous reviews, and I am happy to report that this has not changed – their portion sizes are great.
- Try their desserts. I loved their brownies when they had them on the menu, and I am obsessed with their IceBurgs. You don’t need to be a lover of ice cream or even a dessert person to enjoy IceBurgs – they’re just divine. They’re not on the menu but if you ask a staff member, they may just be able to make one for you!
- Try the vegan options – I will happily admit that their vegan burgers are some of my favourite vegan burgers; both their taste and texture. You really don’t have to be a vegan or vegetarian to enjoy those burgers.
- They now offer ‘Builds’ which means you can fully customise your meal and make it as light, or as loaded as you wish.
