The Indian Snack Lunch Box Newcastle – our review
If you’re anything like us, you know the struggle of driving past a place soooo many times, making a mental note to try it, and then somehow never actually doing it. Well, that was us with The Indian Snack Lunch Box — until we finally caved just recently and have been back again since!
With two branches — the OG spot on Chillingham Road (right at the top of foodie-famous Chilli Road) and the new Wallsend location, The Indian Snack Lunch Box is serving real comfort food with that nostalgic takeaway feel.
The original Indian Snack Lunch Box on Chillingham road
Now let’s rewind to our first-ever taste at The Indian Snack Lunch Box, where we tried some serious comfort food:

- Paneer tikka fries with cheese: Okay — the cheese pull was bigger than my expectations. Seriously. I only recently discovered my love for paneer, and these fries were LOADED with it. If you are a paneer fan – these are a must try.
- Lamb tikka pizza with hot naga spice: If you’re into fiery flavours, this one’s for you! A lovely balance of all the ingredients with just the right amount of cheese (I love cheese, but there’s a fine line between perfectly cheesy and too much when it comes to pizza — and these guys get it right).
- Indian style prawn noodles: This was a highlight from the sides menu. I’m not sure if they still do it, as I haven’t seen it on the menu during our recent visit.
During our most recent visit, we went for:
- Paneer loaded cheese fries: The cheesy fries from The Indian Snack Lunch Box are something else, so naturally, we had to have them again. The name may be slightly different, but the dish is just as delicious.
- Plain fries: Because every meal needs that perfect crispy side (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love fries?).
- Seekh kebab wrap: This was much larger than I expected! Needless to say, I realised we overordered when it arrived. But there’s no such thing as too big of a portion — it was perfectly fine finished for breakfast the next day!
- Lamb grill pieces: Seriously spiced and grilled to perfection. Again, the portion was quite generous.
- We also shared a small bag of salad and chilli & garlic sauces. The garlic sauce was my favourite — an absolute classic when you have a takeaway.
Wallsend branch – the new Express addition to the The Indian Snack Lunch Box Newcastle family
When we heard The Indian Snack Lunch Box had expanded to Wallsend, we wasted no time in checking it out. The menu had a few exciting differences, and you know we had to try them.

- Chicken kebab box: They do kebabs so well, and the new branch is just as good as the OG. Grilled perfectly and so flavoursome.
- 9-inch paneer pizza: If you haven’t tried paneer pizza, do yourself a favour and fix that. This beauty is as cheeky as it sounds and super delish. I adore paneer, and this place does not skimp on it when you order any paneer dish. One thing I would say though — the 9-inch pizzas are exactly that, and 9 inches is quite small when it comes to pizza in my opinion. They’re great for a lunch break, quick snack, or part of a meal, but definitely order some sides if you’re hungry! Or go for the 12-inch pizza, which they do at the Wallsend branch.
Why The Indian Snack Lunch Box keeps us coming back
No surprises here — between the quality of the food and the frequently changing menu with some exciting new additions, it’s clear why we keep coming back.
And the vibe is super friendly too — we have always been greeted with a smile at both Wallsend and Chillingham Road, and the staff are happy to customise orders.
Location
The Indian Snack Lunch Box has two branches: the original at 117A Chillingham Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne NE6 5XL, and the new, express Wallsend branch at 90 High Street East, NE28 7RH.
Tips for visiting
- The Wallsend location is takeaway only, but the Chillingham Road branch has a few seats inside, so you can dine in too.
- Both locations, The Indian Snack Lunch Box Wallsend and The Indian Snack Lunch Box Chillingham Road, have slightly different menus, so if you’re after a specific item, check their menus before you go.
- They are super popular, which means they can get quite busy, especially on weekends (we learnt the hard way on Saturday night, with a little longer wait than usual), so if you don’t fancy waiting, order for collection before turning up. Or get your food delivered.
