Best for: Huge pizza, New York-style pizza slices, city centre location, pizza deals, family meals, Newcastle dining

Firestone Pizza brings that authentic New York pizza slice experience to Newcastle. Their 20″ pies are perfect for sharing (or not, ha!) and come loaded with a variety of delicious toppings to really suit everyone’s taste.
Their menu isn’t huge, which is perfect for those of us who are indecisive (that’ll also be me!), and includes everything you may want on a pizza. Meaty masterpieces, fresh veggie options, or just a classic Margherita (can’t be beaten, right?!)

And each one is made fresh, using high-quality ingredients. You can see them make the pizzas in front of you which is quite cool.
What really sets them apart is the convenience and the authentic NY vibe. If you’ve had pizza in New York you will know; and if you haven’t – this is the closest you can get to that experience here in town. I mean – even to the bins (or should I say trash cans, haha) being like the ones we’ve seen in the NY pizzerias we visited. The decor is really on theme and the pizza names are US inspired. It really does feel like you could be in the Big Apple.

What we had:
- Pepperoni slice (Firestone tomato base, mozzarella, pepperoni, oregano). It was a classic pepperoni done so well. If you usually go for a pepperoni pizza – this one will not disappoint.

- Madison Sq. Garden (Firestone tomato base, mozzarella, mixed peppers, shiitake mushrooms, red onion, tomatoes, oregano). It was delicious; I think they really nailed the topping to dough ratio – there is enough to get all the flavour, but it doesn’t overpower the delicious NY dough or make it soggy with too much stuff. It was gorgeous and I loved it.
- Frank’s Buffalo Chicken (Firestone tomato base, mozzarella, buffalo sauce marinated chicken). The chicken pieces were cut up super finely and spread all over the pizza so the taste was super consistent in every little bite – it’s the kind of detail that sets this place apart and makes the food taste so good.

- Truffle & Olive (Firestone tomato base, mozzarella, truffle infused cheese, spinach, walnuts, red onion). This was my highlight of the whole meal, and one of the nicest pizzas I have EVER had. There isn’t a type of pizza I don’t like, but the NY style pizza is one of my favourites because of the crust, which is nice and thin, and I really like the texture of the dough. And this, combined with the toppings on this pizza was like my idea of pizza heaven. I am not exaggerating. The truffle cheese infuses the whole pie with the most delicious base, but add thinly cut red onions and walnuts – this just elevates this pizza to a genius status, in my opinion. It was stunning! If you like truffle flavour, this is a must try. Just as well we ordered wrong (we thought we were asking for half and half but we actually ordered two 20″ pizzas – oh well.) because I had this pizza on Monday night, and for my breakfast, lunch, and tea on Tuesday. And I don’t think I would get tired of eating it every day of the week – it is STUNNING. Truffle and walnut flavours are great together, but why have I never had them as a pizza topping before?! Just unreal.

We also had some sides:
- Chilli Dough Balls (Dough balls coated in fiery chillies and chilli flakes). You’d think we had enough pizza dough at this point, but I don’t believe that’s ever possible. It is my go-to side whenever I see it on the menu, and I loved the addition of chillies.

- Firestone Fries. We opted for the Cajun seasoning, and they were delicious. Freshly made in-house from real potatoes, and I loved the sprinkling of parmesan on top too.
We had an absolute FEAST, and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys NY style pizza. I think it literally is as good as a NY pizza gets – these guys just get it right!

Location
Firestone Artisan is located at Unit 3 Haymarket Lane, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 7PF, right outside Haymarket Metro Station, making it super easy to pick up a slice (or a full box).
Tips for visiting
- Doing a ‘Joey Special’ by accident (if you are a Friends fan – you know what I am talking about) was actually one of the best mistakes I have made – ordering two pizzas meant we had our meals sorted for the next day, and this pizza tastes great the next day too (I am one of those who enjoys cold pizza the next day). I am sure this counts as meal prep, right?!
- It is tucked away right beside the Haymarket metro station, so can be easy to miss, but if you’re in town – you need to pop in.
- They do a range of discounts, including First Order Discount (25% off your first order), Loyalty Rewards (50% discount on every 6th order), as well as deals (20″ Half & Half, Deal for 1, Mega Family Meal Deal, and a Family Meal Deal). The first thing we actually witnessed when we were waiting to order was the staff give away a pizza to someone for being a loyal customer – the lad was genuinely surprised and pretty happy, but was keen to pay for his order, and the staff insisted it is on the house for his loyal custom. It’s definitely a good vibe place!

- Their Opening Hours are Monday – Sunday: 11am – 9:30pm.
- You can sit in (the space is not huge but has quite a few seats, so great for a casual bite; and the decor is perfect to really reflect the casual, relaxed city vibe), take away, or have it delivered. While we were there, the staff were super busy prepping orders for delivery, so I am guessing they are quite popular for home deliveries.
- The menu is great and has some fun options, so being able to buy a slice is great if you aren’t sure about a topping and want to try it before committing to a full pizza (although I am pretty sure you will love whatever you go for!). I would definitely recommend the Truffle & Olive one – you do not need to be a vegetarian to enjoy it!
