Beyruty, 98 Byker Bank, Newcastle, NE6 1LA
We have just visited the brand new Beyruty, and it’s one to watch!
Owner Osama (known as Sam), from Damascus, opened this restaurant as a tribute to his grandfather’s famous grill house in Beirut. Along with his business partner, Ayoub, a chef from Daraa, they’re bringing authentic Arabic flavours to Newcastle.

What we had
We love Lebanese food – it is definitely our happy food; the flavours, the spices, the generous portions. So we had quite high expectations for this place, especially that we visited this venue when it was a different Lebanese restaurant and we loved it at the time.
So we were really excited to try this new spot, now it’s been revamped. This time, we went for a selection of their signature dishes.
• Beyruty Mixed Grill
Charcoal-grilled kafta lamb, lamb shish, chicken cubes & koftah. It was sizzling, super fragrant, and full of flavour! Really good portion size too (we did have to take a doggy bag home!)

• Beyruty Salad
Crisp lettuce, tomato, cucumber, parsley with zesty lemon & olive oil, and pomegranate on top. It was so fresh and crunchy, absolutely my jam! And they added those little fried breads on top, just delicious.

• Hummus
Smooth, creamy, and hands down one of the best servings of hummus everrrrrrr. I could just have a pot of this with their fresh bread—it was STUNNING.

• Moussaka
Aubergine baked with tomato, onion, chickpeas & sweet peppers. It had a distinct tomatoey-tangy flavour which I loved. Felt really light and fresh.

• Sambousek Cheese
Deep-fried Lebanese pastry stuffed with halloumi & parsley. Addictive! And you have to appreciate the cheese pull. If I could only have one hot dish here, I would reorder this for sure. My fave hot dish of the night.

• Bread
Perfect as a side, but I’d happily eat that on its own. Beautiful and fresh. I probably had ¾ of the whole serving, because I couldn’t stop eating it.

• Chilli Sauce
Another level—10/10! My level of spice and so, so flavoursome. I love a good chilli sauce and I would happily pour it over everything. I wish they’d bottle it and sell to go, absolutely gorgeous. If you like spicy chilli sauce – you will love it.
• Garlic Sauce & Olives
Classic and delicious as a little appetiser/side. You get it served at the very start which is nice to nibble on when you decide what to order.
You can’t beat a Lebanese feast full of gorgeous, hearty flavours, but even though we were full, we couldn’t leave without a dessert, especially that we’d noticed something on the menu we’d not had before.

• Mhalbeh
Creamy, fragrant, not too sweet, and I really enjoyed the texture. It is a little nostalgic as it takes you back to nursery/school type desserts which is really comforting. I don’t normally order milky desserts, but this one was quite nice to try.
• Turkish Coffee
Spiced to perfection to end the night. If you enjoy Turkish coffee, try it here and let me know your thoughts – it’s quite unusual in flavour, in a nice way.

Why we enjoyed our visit
The setting is very casual and unpretentious which is great if you’re after a chilled meal. The portions are generous, and the flavours were gorgeous. Every dish had that authentic homemade feel, packed with vibrant spices and fresh ingredients which you could really tell. The hummus was a standout, and the mixed grill was a proper treat, full of smoky, sizzling goodness. The sambousek had the ultimate cheese pull, and the moussaka was so light yet comforting. I would happily reorder and eat it all over again.
The service was lovely too, and the team made us feel really welcome.
The prices are also super reasonable, it’s definitely one of those places where you get good value for your money.
It’s still early days for Beyruty, but it’s already making an impact. We have noticed a lot of people were coming in to pick up a takeaway order, and the place was never empty when we visited on a Monday night. We can see it becoming a favourite for those who enjoy quality Lebanese food.
Location
Beyruty is located at 98 Byker Bank, Newcastle, NE6 1LA, just a 10-minute walk from Byker Metro Station. Parking is also available right in front of the building.
