Grill n Chill, Featherbed Court, Seaham, SR7 7XR
If you go on Grill n Chill website, the first thing you’ll see is a phrase: ‘Come in hungry, leave us happy’ and honestly – this describes our visit precisely!
We’ve heard so much about this place so we decided to pop in after our seafront walk – the location couldn’t be any better as they are located directly on the seafront (and only a couple doors down from their sister company Chilled out Gelato – read about our visit here)

A huge and diverse menu
The menu is great and there is so much choice – even the fussiest of eaters would find something there.
But as we are not fussy, we went for a full selection of dishes to really see what this place is about (aka I couldn’t make my mind up – it all looked so delish!)

The food here is all about the classic takeaway dishes, levelled up while keeping the heartiness and generosity of portions we all love, and served up in a lovely, elegant restaurant.
We had:
- Chicken Boti Curry: it is a fairly new menu item but has already become their best seller and I can see why; it was so, so comforting and just the perfect level of spicy. I also had a taste the naan it came with – it was also stunning and I could quite easily eat the whole thing by myself!
- Lamb Chops: tender and grilled to perfection, they actually smelt insane too.

- Vegetarian Pizza: we were sharing this so went for a veggie option. Loaded with fresh toppings and gooey cheese – a crowd-pleaser for sure. I loved it as it was so nostalgic; takeaway style pizza but done so well. Gorgeous. I had the bigger half, I just couldn’t stop eating it! Dipped in the most delicious garlic mayo – my mouth is actually watering now I am writing about it. Too good!

- Halloumi: this was my choice as I love halloumi; it was perfectly salty with the loveliest texture. As all other dishes, it was perfectly seasoned too.

- King Prawn Kebab: the marinade it was cooked it was divine – spicy but not too hot, just super flavoursome. Prawns cooked just right. My favourite dish of the day! And I loved the side salad it came with too; I am a huge salad fan and sometimes they are a bit of an afterthought when served as a side, but this one was gorgeous; tangy and crunchy, just beautiful as a fresh side to a rich dish.

- Cheesy Chips with veggies: The ultimate indulgence – they were perfectly seasoned, again, and look at that cheese pull.

There was not an item we didn’t enjoy – it was all lovely and so flavoursome. They really know how to season things well here, but if spice isn’t your thing – you can ask for mild options too.
A moment for the sauces
What’s really cool is how they serve their sauces here. When you order, they bring out a selection of delicious options (my favourite was their garlic mayo – soooooo addictive!) in those large bottles typically seen at markets or takeaway vans. These sauces are the real deal— IYKYK – you can be as generous as you like, and every single one is absolutely delicious! I absolutely covered my pizza in the garlic mayo and I could still taste the garlickiness as well as the rich tomato base of the pizza sauce, which says a lot about the kind of ingredients they use here.

The decor
Another thing which made our experience that little bit more special is the decor. I’ve not seen that many photos of the interiors before our visit and I was so pleasantly surprised. They have expanded into a second unit not too long ago and everything feels new, with a lovely elegant, but chilled vibe. And the motto ‘We grill you chill’ displayed in the restaurant really does set the tone for your visit. It is very relaxing and casual. Chill is definitely how I felt when visiting!
The team
I think most would agree that the people who look after you when you dine out can really make the experience, and I feel the staff here are a great asset to the restaurant.
I can be a nightmare customer because I am so indecisive, but I really like it when staff can make recommendations and even more so, when they recommend dishes they actually personally enjoy. The girls here were super patient, asked what we like and made some great recommendations – all of which were a big hit. And they were also lovely to chat to, telling us about the new menu additions, recent renovations, and also about the dessert place few doors down where you get a discount if you dine at Grill n Chill!
Why we enjoyed our visit and are already planning to come back
We had a great experience and I already know we will be back! Delicious, hearty food, lovely decor, friendly staff, and a great location. A must visit for sure!
If you are after classic takeaway options but in an elegant yet chilled setting – this is a place to try.

Tips for visiting
- Ask for a booth; they are very comfy and spacious, and they even have chargers by the booths so you can plug in your phone as you dine in.
- There is free parking available in front of the restaurant so a great opportunity to come, grab some food and maybe have a seafront stroll before or after your meal.
- Ask for recommendations; we would have missed out on a few items if we hadn’t asked for recommendations because they have some new items that aren’t featured on the menu yet. So if you aren’t exactly sure what you want – the team are super helpful
- If you don’t fancy sitting in, takeaway options are available
- Grill and Chill actually own a range of restaurant and takeaway places so do check as there may be one near you. We are yet to visit their other venues. When we do – we’ll keep you posted!
