Oodles Wok have recently released a new menu and last week we went to their Newcastle branch to try it.

The place is quite cozy for a sit-in meal, but you can also have a takeaway which I think would be perfect for a movie night in.

We chose to dine in this time, and it was a lovely experience.

The chefs actually cook the food right in front of you and it is a bit of a theatre as you watch them literally set the food on fire which I loved to watch!! I always find it really entertaining to see, and you get to see for yourself just how freshly everything is prepared.

The concept is really good – you get to choose many different options as a part of your meal. There is a lot of choice, but at the same time, it’s not overwhelming which works great for the indecisive people (like me!)

New menu items

I went for one of their new menu items:

Bento Box with Chow Mein base (Egg Fried Noodles, Stir-fried Veg, and Prawns as my choice of protein (obviously)

With the box, you also get a side of spring rolls (as we were sharing those, we went with the veggie option) and a side of wings – we went for Oodles Signature Wings. The smell alone was gorgeous!

We also had a side of Salt & Pepper Chips which were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Up there with the best chips I’ve ever had – if you like oriental style spices with a real kick, you will LOVE these. I certainly did!

The other main we went for was a large box; you can pick 2 bases but we went for double Udon Noodles with Sweet & Sour Chicken and Fiery Garlic Chicken.

We also ordered a Jumbo Roll thinking we may be peckish but we were actually stuffed with just the mains and took a doggy bag home as it was deceivingly a lot of food!

And you can’t leave without some fortune cookies – they are always so fun! Although not sure what mine was supposed to mean, ha!

A very relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff

What made the experience even nicer were the team behind the counter. They were really patient taking my order (I’ve taken a while deciding what to have) and very friendly. It was a really enjoyable experience and we will definitely be back. I am thinking a takeaway next time as it would be amazing to tuck in all the delicious food from the comfort of your sofa; it is definitely that kind of comfort food.
