The Chamber, 1 South Shields, NE34 6QZ
The Chamber has just recently turned one year old, and as we have been regulars since their opening night, it is time to write about our experience here.

They really know how to turn a night of dining into an event, inclusive of firebreathers on special nights. But the place is great for a chilled, casual weekday night too. We have dined here quite a few times and I have always been impressed by their prawn dishes; both starter and main options.
Brunch highlights:
Indian Thali Tray Nastha & Desi-Style Breakfast

They also do a fantastic brunch (the Indian Thali Tray Nastha is unreal). The menu reads beautifully: ‘Delight in an array of traditional morning delights featuring a colourful selection of bhuna, channa, dhal, curried masala beans, fluffy parathas, aromatic spiced potatoes and egg omelette. Sip on a steaming cup of masala chai to complete your authentic breakfast experience.
And the dish tastes as good as it sounds on the menu; I adored the al dente potatoes, their home made baked beans to the owner’s mum’s own recipe (does it get any more wholesome?!) and I could eat the whole stack of the parathas which were an absolute highlight for me! As to the bhuna, I opted for prawn but you can get chicken or veg.
It is definitely a substantial meal so don’t have a big breakfast if you’re choosing this. Super filling.

We also tried their desi-style breakfast which is a full breakfast ‘with a Chamber style twist; switched up with spicy sausage, Indian omelette, masala beans and masala spiced potatoes.
We were actually super impressed with both. So when they released a brand new menu for autumn/winter, we had to pop in and give it a try.
New autumn/winter menu: Starters and sushi
If you are a regular reader, you may know that potato skins is often my go-to starter or a side dish, and they have 3 options on the menu; traditional, cheesy, and onion bhaji ones. My highlight was definitely the latter which were a surprising combo and I loved the bhaji all crumbled in between the bits of potato skins.

They also introduced sushi to the menu, which is something I love. We opted for the prawn dynamite and it was delicious; I like it how they generously topped the roll with avocado, and it was presented beautifully too. It will go so well with their edamame beans appetiser – I would definitely recommend ordering a side of those with your sushi roll. Spicy and delicious which would complement the soft, smooth sushi roll so well.

Surf and turf: A must-try dish
And finally, we heard all about their surf and turf dish which has only been available as a takeaway option until now but has been popping up in many reviews, so we also ordered that too. And wow! The prawns – something they do soooo well here – were absolute perfection in a garlic sauce that was quite mild but delicious. The steak was covered in a slightly zesty sauce which was gorgeous mixed with their slightly sweet signature sauce on the chips, and absolutely gorgeous combined with the charred sweetcorn and melt-in-your-mouth mac n cheese. The whole dish was just an explosion of so many flavours which were balanced in the most delicious way. Definitely the dish of the night and up there with their brunch trays in my opinion.

Drinks: Masala chai and lychee spritz
I can’t not mention their drinks. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen how amazing their masala chai is. Gently spiced, warming but also refreshing.
And they have also upped their games on the mocktails. We’ve previously tried the ice tea and espresso martini, but the new addition of a lychee spritz is definitely my favourite of them all. Tasty and refreshing.
