Rosa Twelve in Low Fell has been on our radar for a while as it seems to be a very popular Italian food spot in Gateshead (I have only ever heard positive things about this place), and last weekend I finally had the chance to visit for their Sunday dinner. Known for its warm atmosphere and hearty dishes, it definitely lived up to its reputation.
A classic Sunday dinner menu with a hit of Italian influence
I always like to have a starter before my Sunday dinner, and I was happy to discover that their starter menu features some of the classic dishes you’ll find in an Italian restaurant.

We started with the potato skins, which is my go-to whenever I see it on the menu; it is such an understated but delicious dish, and the one at Rosa Twelve comes with the most indulgent, rich, and garlicy dip you can imagine. I was obsessed with it. I am not usually a big fan of sauces or dips that are mayonnaise-based, but I have eaten the whole pot. It was delicious and didn’t feel heavy, with just the perfect amount of garlic flavour.

The second option we went for was the garlic mushrooms, which were entirely different from what I expected. They were actually a delightful choice, perfectly seasoned and cooked to bring out their earthy flavours in a light but delicious sauce full of parsley, which works so well with the mushrooms. Served with lightly toasted bread, it was a delicious choice.
Both dishes are very classic and typical of an Italian restaurant, and so we have tasted many of those before, but these ones were absolutely gorgeous. Great portion sizes as starters, and I think they’d be really good if you wanted to go for a few small plates and share with a couple of people – they’d be perfect for a tapas-style Italian meal.

The mains
The Sunday lunch menu here is as good as it gets; you get different meat choices, as well as a fish and vegetarian option – which for me is key.

We went for the topside of beef, and the sage and onion nut roast. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender and served with a delicious, rich gravy that tied the whole plate together beautifully. And I actually couldn’t believe how much of it there was; the portion was super generous.

The nut roast was a great vegetarian alternative – hearty, packed with flavour, and I really loved its texture – firm and not at all mushy. It was complemented by the same trimmings as the beef, which included all the Sunday roast essentials: fluffy Yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes, buttery mash, and a medley of seasonal vegetables that were cooked really well – perfectly al dente with great texture. It was a feast that ticked all the boxes in my opinion!
The ambience
The place feels elegant, but it is inviting and has a homely feel at the same time. There are different levels; the main restaurant upstairs is perfect for dining as a couple or with family, the ground floor is more informal so you can grab an Italian coffee and sit in a cozy booth, and the downstairs lounge is perfect for drinks (they actually just launched their brand new bottomless brunch, so I imagine it will get quite lively there).
Rosa Twelve is a place you will want to return to.

We have actually looked at their other menus and are planning to go back to try their Friday and Saturday offerings very soon – so keep your eyes peeled; we’ll be reporting on that very soon!
In my opinion, Rosa Twelve strikes a perfect balance between cozy, homestyle comfort food but with elevated, restaurant-quality flavours. The generous portions and the quality of the dishes make it a fantastic spot for a Sunday roast, whether you’re dining with family, friends, or maybe just treating yourself to a hearty meal.
