Last weekend we ventured for a Sunday dinner with a difference. Pizza is one of our favourite food groups (I mean, it isn’t just us, right?) and we opted for one of our favourites in Newcastle – Pizza Punks.
We have been so many times now, celebrating birthdays and having casual pizza nights with friends. And we never leave disappointed!
Pizza unlike any other
At Pizza Punks, they’re all about breaking the rules of traditional pizza-making with their own unique twist. They’ve taken the best elements of Neapolitan pizza – the top-quality Italian ingredients and time-tested techniques – but introduced their own sourdough starter, straight from the renowned Boudin Bakery in San Francisco, home of some of the finest sourdough around (if you’ve been to San Francisco and tasted their bread, you’ll know! I was obsessed)
Pizza Punks’ sourdough is made fresh in-house every day, fermented for at least 48 hours to bring out a distinctive flavour -it’s not Neapolitan, it’s not New York; this is pure Pizza Punks.
Pizza Punks goes bottomless
It’s a pretty standard set up – you get 90 minutes of bottomless drinks to choose from – cocktails-wise, you get to choose from their 2-4-1 menu (drumstick caiprisma and the loveheart caiproska are always my go-to), you also get to choose from their mocktails menu (double bubble and candy cloud are absolutely delicious), beers (like Pravha), hand crafted punk sodas (strawberry lemonade and pineapple & chilli soda are my particular favourites), ‘fancy cans’ (blood orange San Pellegrino and ginger beer on bottomless – yes please!), and standard soft drinks.
As it was a Sunday, I opted for their mocktails and soft drinks (which is still good value for money).
Foodwise, we went for what we know and love at Pizza Punks.
- Cheeseburger pizza; this is always a great pick – it literally is like having a cheeseburger and a pizza at the same time which – arguably- is one of the best taste combos ever.
- Pepperoni pizza; because what I really love about Pizza Punks is that you can get most of their meat pizzas in veggie versions! I have had their veggie options before and I always find them great – both taste and texture-wise, they’re unreal veggie alternatives. This pizza comes with both pepperoni and nduja, and it is so umami and flavoursome.
Both of our pizzas were gorgeous; while in the past we have opted to choose our own toppings (you can do that as a part of their bottomless too, with unlimited ingredients), I find their creations so good, we both went with the menu items this time.
At £34.50, I think it is a great deal, whether you opt for alcoholic drinks or soft/mocktails.

Pizza Punks is located right in the city centre at 34-40 Grey Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 6AE. The nearest Metro stations are Monument (a quick 2-minute walk) and Central Station (about 5 minutes away). If you’re driving, Dean Street Car Park and Eldon Square Car Park are both nearby.

- Pizza Punks do monthly pizza specials – so check out their website before you go
- Want to make your pizza your own? They let you choose as many toppings as you like – no extra costs
- Bottomless Brunch is a great deal, you get any pizza and 90 minutes unlimited drinks. It is available Monday to Saturday 11am-3pm and Sunday 11am-5pm.
- Cheap date? Go on Monday for their Cheap Date Mondays deal – we have been many, many times because you can’t beat 2 pizzas and 2 drinks for £29.50!

It scores highly across review platforms, averaging around 4.5 stars on Google and TripAdvisor. We have been fans since our very first visit a few years ago – it is consistently good.
