Everything you need to know about Radisson Blu Durham staycation

We booked into the Radisson Blu Durham for our little early summer staycation – and I can’t believe we’ve not tried this spot sooner!

We love a local staycation and this place is ideal if you are looking for a North East staycay in a quintessential English city.

The hotel’s right on the River Wear, which means you’re only a short walk from Durham Cathedral and the city centre. It’s the perfect spot if you’re looking for somewhere well located for exploring.

We had a beautiful room with a stunning river view. I mean who doesn’t want to wake up to a dreamy look out across the river towards Durham Castle?) I am convinced this made my coffee taste even better on Sunday morning!

The rooms have been recently refurbished and are super modern – including very comfy beds.

Breakfast at Radisson Blu

The buffet breakfast was everything you’d want from a hotel brekkie. Loads of choice of both cooked breakfast and continental options.

You get pastries, fresh fruit, juices, cereal, cheese and cold meats on the continental side, while the hot breakfast has sausages, bacon, the most perfectly crisp hash browns (these can make or break a breakfast for me and I was so happy when I saw these golden hash browns).

You also have choice of breads, fresh pancakes, and items can be made on request (we asked for pouched eggs – which were perfectly cooked – and there are other options too)

Evening meal at Jozef’s restaurant

Food can make or break a trip away for me, and Jozef’s Restaurant & Bar won’t disappoint. We booked in for an evening meal at the hotel restaurant and it was beautiful. Perfect way to wind down after a day of splashing in the pool! The restaurant is on a fine dining side, and the menu reflects modern British cuisine. We opted for prawns, steak and chips, and a beetroot and hazelnut salad; all of them were absolutely stunning, full of flavour, fresh, and cooked perfectly.

The spa facilities at Radisson Blu Durham

We made the most of the indoor pool, sauna and steam room – such a perfect way to relax! They’ve also got a gym and offer a range of different spa treatments if you’re in the mood for a little pampering (we missed out on this as we didn’t book early enough, so definitely book ahead if you go). A reason to go back, I guess!

Why is Durham a perfect staycation city

Durham itself is packed with things to do, and you’re right in the heart of it all. You can stroll to the cathedral, Durham Castle, and explore the cute cafes and shops in the area. We enjoyed a long stroll around Durham in the evening – it is even more beautiful at sunset.
