Why this local favourite is worth the hype
If you’re ever in the mood for a top notch Indian takeaway, you have to try Nisha’s Tandoori – it’s been a local favourite for over 15 years.
Their menu is just full of options, from crowd pleasers we all know well and love, to fusion dishes and Nisha’s own specials, so there’s something for everyone.

First time ordering from Nisha’s Tandoori – our honest thoughts
First time trying this place – and we’re hooked!
We went all out with our order and we actually loved each individual dish – there was nothing that I wouldn’t reorder!

Technically a takeaway, but the food was restaurant quality – super tasty, generous portions, and everything cooked to perfection. I loved the attention to detail – the king prawns shells were halved so you could get to them easier, and it was great for the presentation too. Such a lovely touch!
What to order at Nisha’s Tandoori – must try dishes
We tried (and would happily order again):
- King prawn on puri – gorgeous prawns in a tangy, spiced sauce, served with a soft, lightly fried puri. It was the first thing I’ve eaten – puris are my favourite and this one was stunning.

- Garlic mushroom on puri – Creamy mushrooms with loads of garlic. So much umami flavour in one dish 😮💨

- Tikka chicken jhal mos – Tender tikka chicken in a thick, slightly hot sauce. Just perfect if you like spice but don’t want to go OTT. 10/10.
- Prawn badsh-e khana – A rich, aromatic curry with loads of prawns in a spicy sauce. Slightly sweet, but the spicy kick stays with you for a while. I love spicy food and it was a perfect level of spice for me!
- Sag aloo – Spinach and potato cooked with spices. Delish.

- Cauliflower bhaji – Spiced cauliflower, lightly fried but not at all greasy. LOVED these!

- Pilau rice – Light and fragrant. And so pretty too with the sprinkles of colour.

- Garlic chips – Crispy and super moreish. Very generous portion too, which we shared.

- Garlic nan & Cheese nan – Soft, fluffy, doughy. Quite thick but not overly so. Just how I like it.

Why Nisha’s Tandoori is one of the best takeaways in Gateshead
A solid 10/10. It was our first visit but certainly won’t be our last! Already planning our next order! I have read their online reviews and this place has been described as ‘the best Indian takeaway around’ which, I would say, is very fitting.
