Why everyone’s talking about Savour bakery in Gateshead
If you’re in Gateshead and have a sweet tooth (or just appreciate really good pastries), you have to check out Savour Bakery Café & Patisserie. This chic little spot opened in late 2024 and has already become a local favourite for its Parisian style treats and elegant vibe.
I hate the word ‘viral’ but honestly this place achieved this status within days from opening, and it doesn’t look like it’s about to change anytime soon!

We have tried some of their sweet treats before, and as we have been back since for few more goodies, we have done enough research to be able to share an honest review.
On my last visit I actually got to meet the head chef, Stav Sadan, who is not only incredibly talented but also so lovely. The team were busy behind the scenes making fresh sandwiches, breads, and pastries from scratch – the kitchen is spotless, and I even was lucky to get a little tour! They temper their own chocolate and I have to say, I’m obsessed with their chocolate tempering machine – it’s MasterChef worthy!

Why you need to visit Savour bakery
The first thing you’ll notice is the shop’s beautiful design. It’s minimalist, modern, and very inviting at the same time.
But once you’re in, you won’t take much notice of what’s around you as the goodies on display will divert your attention (I am talking form personal experience, ha!)

It is like a work of art, showcasing everything from beautifully filled sandwiches and glossy tarts to buttery croissants and perfectly piped macaroons (my faveeeeee sweet thing ever).
I have seen this place described as ‘like walking into a downtown patisserie in Nice’ in one of the online reviews, and even though I have not been to Niece specifically, I can confirm that this place fits in with the finest European patisserie places we have had the chance to visit across Europe – and yes, they compare to their Parisian counterparts!

What to order at Savour bakery: our top picks
You could say that Savour offers a little slice of luxury right in the heart of Gateshead. And it isn’t just the aesthetics either. The goodies taste as good as they look.
We tried so many things, and I can’t remember all the names specifically, but I’ll describe them as best as I can!
- New York croissant – layers on layers of flaky perfection with chocolate (we always go for milk choc, but there’s also white choc on offer too). Its delicious and filled with more choc filling inside. It’s divine.

- Strawberry & cream croissant – we’ve only had this once, as they’re only available on Fridays but are absolutely worth the wait! The cream is super fresh and who doesn’t love the iconic cream and strawberry combo?! With Savour’s freshly made croissant, it’s a gorgeous treat.

- Berry macaroon– super light, crisp shell, perfect filling. And the berry flavour is super delicious.

- Sandwiches – we’ve had the salmon bagel and Brie and honey pears croissant – they were both super fresh (I guess like everything they sell here!), super tasty, and built on their own breads which I just love – it doesn’t get any fresher than this.

- Vanilla cream bun – it’s my guilty pleasure, it’s HUGE, full of delicious cream, and I just can’t go in without picking one up! I have had them in many places before, but this is my absolute fave of them all.

- Plus a little something creamy… their best-selling whipped cream treat that’s genuinely addictive, and looks beautiful too.

- Matcha – I can’t not include this in here, as this place is my go to for matcha in Gateshead. Served hot or cold, with your choice of milk. Its delicious.
What makes Savour bakery special
- Everything is made daily, and you can taste the care in every bite.
- Their photography… they work with their own professional photographer and honestly, the pics are magazine worthy. I felt a bit amateur taking pics here, but this is the kind of place where the food speaks for itself so I tried to give it justice!
- Decor is understated and elegant, with a welcoming, refined vibe. Its gorgeous.
- The display is packed with sweet and savoury options, and it’s all so beautifully done.
- Everything we have ever tried here is always super delish, the sweet snacks are not too sugary, but absolutely moreish, and the savoury snacks are filling and really well put together in terms of complementing flavours and great textures.
- Really friendly team – always a plus!
- Clean, uncluttered space both in the serving part of the café, as well as the working kitchen.

Savour Gateshead: Parisian style treats we can’t get enough of
If you’ve been before – I am sure I don’t need to convince you to go back! But if you haven’t, let it be your sign to go and try!

Location
You’ll find Savour Bakery Café & Patisserie at 205B Coatsworth Road, Gateshead, NE8 1SR with on street parking available in front of the café.

Tips for visiting
- Great for gifts. Their pastries make lovely edible gifts. They can box them up nicely for you, and what a better present than a box full of fresh, delicious pastries. I would definitely pick this over flowers, any day, ha!
- It’s open Sunday to Friday from 8am until sold out (be quick – they SELL OUT DAILY so come early!) and closed on Saturdays.

- Try both sweet and savoury treats. The sweet snacks are super appealing, but their savoury options are absolutely stunning too so you really need to try both.
- The café is Jewish owned and run, so everything is kosher.
- Ask the staff for recommendations. They’re super friendly and know what’s newly launched, any specials, or most popular items. They’ll help you find a new favourite if you’re not sure what to try!
