Best for: pizza, takeaway, restaurant quality takeaway food, burgers, pasta dishes

If there’s one truly HIDDEN takeaway gem that I’d recommend everyone to try, it would be Farina.

I was soooooo excited to try this place as it’s not your standard takeaway. George, the owner, was a chef in some of the most loved restaurants in Newcastle and has now opened his own place serving restaurant quality food to take away.

While it’s a take away only at the moment, there is a little seating area outside so you can enjoy your food in the sunshine, which is exactly what we did when we visited for the first time.

We’ve had takeaways from Farina since, and the great thing is that their food tastes as delicious delivered, as it does when you eat it right there and then when it comes fresh from the oven!

What’s different about Farina

There are many different kinds of pizza and I always say that there isn’t any type that I don’t like, but there is definitely some that I like more than some others, and Farina pizza is one of them. It is a slow fermented BIGA style pizza and it is absolutely delicious!

Pizzas at Farina – our menu highlights

We tried quite a few different pizzas here and they are just delicious; from the Margarita, Pepperoni, Hot and spicy and Hot pepperoni – they’re all stunning. You can totally taste that the ingredients are top quality; super flavoursome. We absolutely love these pizzas, as you can taste each ingredient.

And a moment for the dough – it has a great texture with a bit of a chew to it; I would happily eat the crust on its own – it’s delicious and quite addictive! As soon as you finish one slice, you need to grab the next one. It’s gorgeous.

Pasta at Farina – our recommendations

But Farina isn’t just a one trick pony. Their pasta is hearty and filling, and SUPER tasty. We tried the nduja and chorizo and it was divine. I couldn’t believe this was actually a takeaway pasta, it was so good. I loved the earthy umami flavours, super delicious. I would happily order this when I host and pretend I cooked it (not that I have ever done it in real life, in case my friends are reading this, ha)

Burgers at Farina – top picks

Of course we also sampled Farina’s burgers; I think the nduja chicken burger need a special mention, and to quote Ryan it is ‘tremendous’; the savoury flavours of the main ingredients are beautifully complemented by the honey in which they’re cooked, making it super tasty, almost a BBQ like flavour but not quite – a really delicious surprise you need to try for yourself! I am savoury- savoury person and usually avoid sweet-savoury dishes but I’d happily make exception for this every time. The balance here was everything and the sweetness just elevates the dish rather than making it taste sweet. I guess this is what a trained, experienced chef can do – I am telling you – it is not your typical takeaway!

What we love about Farina

We have tried Farina a few times now – it is our go to for match days and it never disappoints. If you like pizza and want to try something that may be a little different to what you’re used to from your local, give Farina a try. I am excited for you to experience it for the first time – you won’t forget it!

Location

Farina is located at Unit 28, bakers yard, Christon Rd, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE3 1XD. There is a car park right in front of the place so you won’t struggle to find a spot to park. You can also get your food delivered.

Tips for visiting

  • I have seen these guys finish service early because they sold out of their dough so order early to make sure you don’t miss out – they are that popular!
  • Farina Italian Kitchen is on most of your popular delivery apps and they have a website for orders, you can visit it here. Alternately call them on 07386 163538 to make an order.
  • Farina is known for delivery and take away options, but there actually is a bit of a seating area right next to the shop so if the weather is nice and you fancy dining al fresco – you can eat your food right there.
  • Keep an eye on their menu as they come up with new toppings and menu items. And George has some other exciting plans which I can’t wait to see! If it’s anything close to what they’re doing now – I am sure it will be a great success.
