About Fisherman’s Bay:
Fisherman’s Bay is a charming fish and chip restaurant and takeaway in Whitley Bay, offering classic seaside favourites with a modern touch. Known for its fresh seafood, friendly service, and stunning coastal views, Fisherman’s Bay offers that unbeatable fish and chips experience which we adore.
Created by the Dhillon family – who have over 25 years experience – Fisherman’s Bay prides itself on using sustainable fish and local ingredients. They even cater to gluten free and vegan diners, so no one has to miss out.

Whether you’re dining in or grabbing a box to takeaway, this spot is a must try.
Why you need to try Fisherman’s Bay in Whitley Bay
It’s hard to beat fish and chips done right, and Fisherman’s Bay nails it. 100%!
I ALWAYS set out to have something different when we go for fish and chips, but I ALWAYS end up getting the traditional fish and chips, and this time was no different.
I went for the cod; it was perfectly crisp on the outside, super flaky on the inside, and not at all greasy. I don’t usually have all of the batter on my fish as it can often feel quite heavy, but this was so light and delicate, I finished the whole thing! It was beautiful.

The fish finger sandwich was our other choice and what a great shout that was! It was MASSIVE! The fish was crunchy, golden in soft bread with tangy tartar sauce. Definitely not for small appetites.
The chips here were as good as chips get. Super fluffy on the inside and absolutely delicious with a bit of vinegar and their curry sauce which was lovely. I would be happy just getting a box of chips here. So, so good.

And let’s talk about dessert! The pineapple split was a huge surprise; it was just the right amount of sweet, and how creative?! Again, the batter was super delicate and felt really light.

I went for my usual go to – the brownies. I was really surprised with the portion size as there were quite a few chunks on my plate with a big serving of their ice cream; the dessert was rich, fudgy, and soooo indulgent. It was gorgeous!

I really appreciate that this place isn’t just about delicious food – they are proud to make a difference and take ethical considerations seriously; they say on their website that they believe in compassion for all living creatures and therefore offer fully vegan Fish & Chips as an option too, which I think is amazing.

Tips for visiting
• It can get busy; we arrived just after 6pm and were the first ones in the restaurant, but the place filled up quickly. It was a nice, lively atmosphere to dine in.
• Check the menu – they are all about the classics, but their menu is inventive and they also have some fun specials too. This month’s special is a Fish Gyro (I mean yum!!). They’ve also got gluten free and vegan options.
• Save room for dessert – Seriously, that pineapple split is something else. And the portions here are good enough to share.
• Grab a table inside or take your food to the beach and enjoy those North East coastal views. They also have some outside seating which I think will be great in warmer weather. Fish and chips just taste even better by the sea, it is a fact, right?

If you’re after top tier fish and chips with a view, Fisherman’s Bay is a fantastic choice.
